Laser Hair Removal

Are you tired of tweezing or waxing? Is shaving taking too much time? The aesthetic specialists at Central Park Aesthetique in Midtown Manhattan in New York City offer a permanent solution to unwanted hair with the CUTERA® CoolGlide™ laser treatment. If you’d like to know more about laser hair removal, call the office for a consultation.

What is the CoolGlide laser?

The state-of-the-art CoolGlide laser safely and permanently removes hair from all skin types, even tanned skin. It also treats pseudofolliculitis barbae, also known as razor bump, which results when thick, curved hair turns and grows back into the skin, causing inflammation and blemishes.

How does CoolGlide remove hair?

The CoolGlide laser uses a pulsed light that targets your hair follicle. The light generates enough heat to damage the follicle and prevent further growth.

CoolGlide only works on follicles with hair.

What does the CoolGlide feel like during treatment?

The CoolGlide laser cools your skin as it targets the follicle. However, you may feel some mild pain as the laser zaps the follicle. To provide some protection and improve the gliding of the laser, the aesthetic specialist applies a special gel to your skin before treatment starts.

Most patients at Central Park Aesthetique don’t need anesthetic during treatment. However, if you’re sensitive to pain or you’re having a sensitive area treated, the specialist can use a topical anesthetic to ease your discomfort.

How many treatments are needed to remove hair?

Because the CoolGlide laser only targets hair follicles with growing hair, you may need as many as eight treatments for best results. The team at Central Park Aesthetique recommends treatments at 6-12 week intervals.

You might be anxious to remove hair as quickly as possible once you start treatment. However, getting treatment too quickly may not have a beneficial effect. The CoolGlide laser can’t remove hair during the growth phase. Allowing enough time in between treatments for the unwanted hair to grow to an adequate length ensures you get the most benefits out of each treatment, especially when treating the hair on the legs, back, and torso. Once the hair is gone, it won’t grow back.

What happens after treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you may notice redness and swelling in the treated area. It takes up to two weeks for the treated hair to fall out. You also want to avoid waxing or plucking the hairs in the treated area.
